Kiwisaver is a savings scheme designed to help you for your retirement and is available to all New Zealand residents under the age of 65 years.
By joining Kiwisaver the Government will contribute $1000 to get you started saving towards your retirement.
For those that are employed and on a wage or salary your contributions can start from as little as 2% and can be increased up to 8% of your gross pay. Also your employer will be contributing a further 2% to your Kiwisaver.
If you are self employed or unemployed you are able to make regular contributions to your Kiwisaver or lump sum payments.
As a further added incentive to all Kiwisaver members the Government will provide an annual subsidy as a tax credit for the period between 1 July to 30 June on a dollar for dollar basis up to a maximum of $20 per week ($1042.86 per annum). The tax credit is only available to those over the age 18.
A first home deposit subsidy is available after 3 years from $3000 through to 5 years $5000 maximum. (Conditions apply).
